Three dals cooked together with simple masalas

Ingredients

  • Split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal) 3 tbsps
  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) 3 tbsps
  • Split skinless green gram (dhuli moong dal) 3 tbsps
  • Oil 2 tbsps
  • Medium onion 1
  • Green chillies 3
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida (hing) 1 pinch
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped 1 tbsp

How to Make Tidali Dal ( Mixed Pulses Curry) (Stepwise Photos)

Method

  1. Mix all the dals in a large bowl and soak in plenty of water for at least 3-4 hours.
  2. Chop onion and green chillies.
  3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add onion and green chillies and saute till they turn light brown.
  4. Add dals, turmeric powder, asafoetida, cumin seeds and salt and mix well. Cook on medium heat for 5 minutes.
  5. Add 3 cups of water and mix. Cook under pressure till the dals are cooked and soft.
  6. The consistency of the dal should not be too thick nor too thin.
  7. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
